Insider's Guide to Modeling: The Pros Tell You HowYA The author, a former model and photographer, covers the basics of
breaking into this field. Modeling agencies, magazine editors and
professional photographers are quoted here. Perkins gives good solid
advice, but without enough detail. For instance, he states that
beginners should check out the qualifications of modeling schools, but
he does not state what exactly to look for. The black-and-white
photographs of models are poorly reproduced, and many are dark and
indistinct; there are also a few typographical and grammatical errors.
Even with these faults, the book is an enthusiastic, accurate portrait
of the modeling world that presents helpful information to those
interested in pursuing this career. Pat Royal, Prince George's County

Runway Madness
review from Amazon - "Beyond the smoke and mirrors of the runway lies
another part of the fashion world." It is there that Pulitzer
Prize-winning photographer Lucian Perkins finds the most compelling
images: über-waif Kate Moss sipping champagne decked out in an
undershirt, jeans, and a bogling network of curled hair extensions.
Design maven Isaac Mizrahi fretting over a voluminous skirt.
Glamour-pusses Naomi Campbell and Veronica Webb lolling around, waiting
for their curlers to set, while the clock ticks at the rate of $250 per
hour. Perkins gets up on the runway, too. He turns his camera on his
colleagues, who form an impenetrable wall of extra-long lenses and
tripods. He looks out into the audience, where he finds the
gender-bending RuPaul, Southern belle Dolly Parton, and actress Mira
Sorvino parked amid the ubiquitous fashion editors and buyers and
socialites. And he follows the impossibly fabulous creatures as they
strut their wares down that most glamorous corridor--the runway. The
unusually long and narrow shape of the book is an excellent format for
Perkins's atmospheric panoramic shots, and leaves room for quotes by
Azzedine Alaia, Coco Chanel, and other fashion fixtures to accompany the
smaller images. Readers who don't share original supermodel Iman's
fashion ennui--she's quoted as saying she "couldn't get excited about
another dress"--should be more than sated by the 100 fantastic photos of
frocks, gowns, and shifts in Runway Madness.

the world of modeling. It is essential for anyone who is interested in
becoming a model. You will learn exactly what the agents and scouts are
looking for and how to give it to them. You will find out everything you
will ever need to know about becoming a model. About the
Author Jordan Sales was born on August 17, 1982 in Grande Prairie,
Alberta, Canada. Ever since he was a youngster he had always dreamed of
being a famous model or actor. He always told parents, teachers and
classmates that someday he was going to be famous. He even went to the
trouble of singing every book in his school that he could get his hands
on because he knew that they would be worth something. He has now had
much modeling and acting experience and has learned from many top agents
and scouts in the business. He wanted to know what they wanted to see.
So he would constantly ask them until he had heard all of the answers
several times. Sales says "This is the only way to get signed. You have
to know what they want to see." He is signed with an acting agency and
is on the verge of signing his second modeling contract. He is currently
more interested in teaching others what he has learned. He has very
unique and effective ways of teaching how to become a model that will
work for anyone. His methods are very basic and simple yet extremely
effective. Sales main goal is to assist in unlocking the hidden
potential within anyone who dreams of being a model and helping make
that dream a reality.
Stella
In the 1950's, fashion designers and photographers produced commercial
images that are now appreciated as fine art. Comparatively few books
have concentrate on this work. This book, a collection of photos from
the personal album of a leading Paris model of the period, is one of the
best. Most of the photos show the model (Stella) in Jacques Fath, some
are in Adele Simpson and others. Various types of images are included:
studio, runway, etc. Many exemplify a particularly 1950's style - the
model is photographed outdoors, on the sidewalks of Paris, lounging
against a parked car, in a park, etc. Always gracefully posed in
extremely elegant clothes. The photos are almost exclusively from
1953-55 and in black and white. Text is minimal. The book is produced to
a high standard; photo reproductions are very high quality, paper is
heavy matte stock, the binding is sewn. Most photos have captions
identifying the designer, photographer, and date. Highly recommended to
those interested in classic black and white photography and 1950's
style.
Stop Staring: Facial Modeling and Animation Done Right
Lips, brows, frown lines--they’re all in motion in an expressive face.
Stop Staring analyzes facial structures and movements and shows
animators how to enliven the faces of their characters. The author,
whose own handsome head (in modeled form) graces the cover, is an
experienced animator currently working on The Sims. He writes with a dry
wit and a confidence born from experience. The book is friendly but also
loaded with content and precise in its directions. "I am by no means
God’s gift to animation, but I do pretty well at making a talking head
look like a living one, not just a set of gums flapping." This is not a
how-to manual, but a richly detailed guide to achieving the right
movements for a given situation and emotion. The companion CD includes
all the pieces readers will need in order to work along with the text:
models (both realistic and stylized ’toon characters), lip-synching
samples, finished Quicktime movies, and even a copy of Maya Personal LE.
(More info and some movies can be found at jasonosipa.com.) Readers move
from "Getting to Know the Face," to synching audio, working on the
mouth, eyes, and brows, and rigging. Osipa has created a methodology for
facial animation that gets results and makes the process fun. The book
can be used as a step-by-step guide for learning new skills or finessing
techniques, or as a reference book for troubleshooting specific
expressions (for example, "happy eyes," "frustration," and "sneers" are
all in the index). Although the projects are presented using Maya, the
concepts involved pertain to animation in general.
